I was extremely fortunate in 1968 to meet a high school ceramics teacher with such enthusiasm for his craft that it was infectious. He spent the next four years giving a few of us every spare moment he had. He would endlessly cut our "masterpieces" in half to explain a point.
College offered business classes, fraternities, parties and a new set of friends all of which made me put ceramics on the back burner. After college and a few jobs I founded a Direct Mail Advertising company in 1979 called Money Mailer. What a terrific journey we had for the next 20 years!
In 1998 my high school son, Trevor, came home to tell me about this incredible ceramics teacher he had named Bill Bryant. The next thing I knew we were down at Aardvark Ceramics buying wheels, kilns, and all the supplies.
October 28, 1998 proved to be the most important day of my life. For after returning from a Zig Ziglar Board meeting and reading his new book he had given to all his Board members - "Confessions of a Grieving Christian" - I dropped to my knees and asked Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior.
Our whole family was baptized that December. In January of 1999 we announced that I would step down as CEO of Money Mailer and leave the company in the very capable hands of my friend of 10 years and the company's COO, Godfred Otuteye.
God led me to a ministry called Miracles in Motion. An organization that helps motel families by placing mentors from Mariners church (and from other churches) in their lives. It was during a brainstorming session regarding fund raising for Miracles in Motion that we decided that our crystalline pottery might be a great source of revenue for the families.
Today, with the help of my daughter Blair, two incredible potters - Hacik & Tom Wallick, friends and family, almost all of our pottery revenue goes to help Miracles in Motion.
God works in incredible ways. We just can't wait to see what he has in store for us today.
